Calming drinks to keep you chill

Find your zen with one of our favourite soothing hot drinks.

It’s a common notion that we can put the world to right with a good cuppa. But these cups of love go the extra mile to help you feel calm and relaxed, whatever kind of day you’re having.

Calming herbal

The classic blend of chamomile and lavender is one of the perfect remedies for relaxation at the end of a busy day. Chamomile is known for it’s anxiety relieving properties and steeped with a little lavender and mallow root, it is sure to send you to sleep.

  • 3 tsp camomile
  • 1/4 tsp lavender
  • 1/2 tsp mallow root

Brew 2-3 minutes.

Fennel and Lemon balm

Our new favourite is a fennel, cardamom, lemon balm and valerian root mix. Ayurvedic medicine uses cardamom in tea to fight depression and lemon balm has been used since the middle ages to reduce anxiety and stress. The cardamom gives it a subtle sweetness that counteracts the leafy lemon balm.

  • ½ tsp fennel
  • 8 cardamon pods
  • 1 tsp lemon balm
  • ½ tsp valerian root

Brew for 2-3 minutes.

Spiced chai latte

We love this vegan version of a spiced chai latte, generously spiced with ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg, and topped to perfection with a dollop of coconut cream. They win our award for the best looking chai lattes. Check out the recipe on Lauren’s website, laurencariscooks.com.

Soothing turmeric latte

Oat milk, turmeric, ginger powder, rice/maple syrup

  • 300ml oat milk
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp ginger powder
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1-2 tsp rice syrup

Gently heat the milk in a small saucepan. Once hot, whisk in the turmeric, ginger powder and cinnamon. Turn off the heat and stir in the rice syrup until dissolved. Pour into your favourite cup and enjoy it’s creamy wonder.

Bedtime tea

When we ordered oat flower on eBay and it arrived in the post looking like a bag of hay, we were pretty dubious as to how this was going to work. But the oat ‘straw’ as it’s also known creates a hint of creaminess that blend so nicely with relaxing lavender and lime flower that it’s the best remedy for a bedtime wind down. Plus, oat flower is known for soothing the central nervous system.

  • 1 tsp oat straw
  • 1 tsp lime flower
  • ¼ tsp lavender

Brew for 2-3 minutes.
